3D SCANNING

We can offer the right solution for your scanning project using a range of workflows & equipment

3D SCANNING

Our Process

At Meccanica Engineering, we offer 3D scanning services as a fast and accurate way of digitising physical objects for use in design, inspection, visualisation and reverse engineering.  We can create an accurate 3D scan of almost any product or structure to digitally capture its physical shape and dimensions. Because the equipment we use is fully portable, we can carry out the scanning either at your own facility, or our own secure premises.

Using the right tool for the job is important, and that’s definitely true with 3D scanners. One scanner will not be suitable for all applications, which is why we use a range of 3D scanners. This enables us to accurately scan everything from small objects like jewellery, all the way up to large structures like bridges  buildings (and everything in-between). We have worked with all sectors ranging from Automotive to the Creative arts.

Taking a 3D scan is usually just the first step of the process. At Meccanica Engineering we take the time to understand what you intend on using the 3D scan for to figure out what is important. Is the scan to be used for reverse engineering a product, or maybe taking accurate measurements, or is the data just being kept as a historical record?

We can provide your scan data in your preferred point cloud or mesh format. We can provide you with a free quotation for any of your 3D scanning requirements, just get in contact with us and we'd be happy to help.

Short Range 3D Scanning

For many of our projects, we use a Creaform Handyscan Black Elite,  which is a metrology grade 3D scanner that can achieve an accuracy of 0.025 mm (click on image to the left for full technical specifications). With this system we can scan objects ranging from 50 mm to 4 m.  This makes this system ideal for objects ranging from small items that fit on your desk, all the way up to vehicles the size of a car. For bigger items between 4 - 10 meters, we typically use a MetraScan 750 Elite. This system can achieve an accuracy of 0.030 mm. This makes it very well suited for reverse engineering or inspection larger objects such as planes, boats and trucks. Short range scan data is typically used for:

Long Range 3D Scanning

This type of 3D scanning system is often used in site surveys and architecture work. We use the FARO Focus M70, which is portable and gives accurate measurements up to ±3 mm over a range from 0.6 m up to 70 m (click on image to the right for full technical specification). It also has the the benefit of HD photo overlay up to 165 megapixel in full colour It is typically used for small construction sites, small-scale facades, complex structures, production and supply facilities.
